Is Foreign Travel Insurance for Active People Only?
If you were traveling to Switzerland to take part in a skiing vacation it would make sense to purchase a foreign travel insurance policy. After all, active sports such as skiing do come with a risk of injury. No, the risk is not so high that injuries are a given but there is enough risk to take the necessary steps to make sure injuries are covered by an insurance policy. But, if you are not taking part in an active vacation then you really do not need a travel insurance policy, do you? Well, you do not need a policy if you have the ability to foresee the future.
That is, you do not have to be taking part in an active hobby for an injury or medical emergency to occur. Imagine if you were traveling through Europe and visiting museums. It would not be out of the realm of possibility to twist your knee while walking on the museum’s steps. Such an injury sometimes requires immediate surgery in order to prevent the tears from becoming worse. That means that you will be required to have the surgery while overseas. Even if you can delay the surgery, you will still have to visit a hospital and have an MRI performed. Obviously, all of these procedures will come with significant cost. That is why taking out a travel insurance policy certainly would prove helpful regardless of the activity level of the vacation.
Thankfully, many of these policies are inexpensive and can be acquired at little cost. Even some of the cheapest policies come with quality coverage. Considering the fact that a medical emergency can occur under any number of circumstances, it certainly would not hurt to purchase a reliable policy prior to leaving your home country. It not only will guarantee quality medical care but it will give you peace of mind a well.
